Last week, I heard a presentation that really got me thinking for a while. It was more than convincing, it was inspiring. I expected Valentina to develop her presentation around these type of ideas. It was about purpose and how purpose connects with her life with education. Before her presentation I had the belief that exceeding academically was for the purpose in making money; yet, I was wrong. Her reasoning in exceeding in academics is to be able to obtain all the needs in order to help the individuals that suffer through poverty. She convinced me that exceeding in school had a different purpose, and that money is only a result of your efforts in achieving your purpose.
Reflecting on this presentation, I had clearer vision on my purpose for achieving excellence academically. It wasn't for the money or how the world viewed me. My purpose for excelling in school is to make my family happy. You see, my parents and grandparents never really had the opportunity I had when it came to education. My dad was the first in his family to ever get a college education and my mom was one of the few in her family that got a college education. Seeing my family's past, I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to make my family proud. Thats why I put in hours of dedication and hard work in what I do in school. Yet, I always hit obstacles that try to prevent me from achieving my purpose. When we see that brick wall, we don't quit, you go around it, over it or break it, but you never turn around and quit. That type of mentality and willing, is what distinguishes a winner and a loser. Trying your hardest to fight off these problems will get you even closer in achieving purpose. I am still young and I see problems that are tangible in life, however, when it is time to leave my family in Peru, that is when I will experience the hardest problems in life.
